Kuwait 2000
Originally from India, Pradeep Selvakumar moved to the U.S. in 1995. His parents moved to Kuwait, and it was over a year before they saw each other again. In December 2000 Pradeep came over. He also took plenty of time to give his notebook and camera a workout. Pradeep has a pretty extensive selection photos to accompany his travelogue; go to his website to check out the pix.
The Trip
Arrival
Missing luggage, lots of expats, big luxury cars and very, very aggressive drivers. How's that for Christmas?
Wandering
The thrill of a new place wears off quickly. The only thing interesting about Kuwait seems to be the land mines outside the city, but at least the magazines are eye-catching.
Camels & Cultural Misconceptions
One's first thought of Kuwait may involve camels, but certainly not a large inflatable rooster. And Kuwaitis are often just as ill-informed about American life as an American may be about Kuwait.
Sunset in Doha
A day trip turns into great photo opportunities, and Pradeep also befriends some Kuwaitis.
Departure
In the desert, the Apaches. Then, after celebrating New Year's, it's time to go back to the States.
