Bowerdude – Around-the-World Traveler

  1. When do you leave?
    February 2005

  2. How long do you plan to be away?
    I Ain’t Never Comin’ Back

  3. How much have you saved?
    $9000 USD

  4. How old are you?
    22

  5. Nationality
    USA

  6. Where do you live now?
    Virginia, USA

  7. Occupation
    US Navy

  8. Is this job one that you actually like, or
are you only doing it to pay for the trip?

One more paycheck and I’m gone

  9. Have you traveled around the world
    before?

    No

  10. What is the route you plan to take/places
    you plan to visit?

I am going to start with a “conventional” (hah, no such thing in this
business) RTW trip, easterly direction. London, Rome, Athens, Africa,
Singapore, Seattle. Then a Pacific circle, I will work as I go, and crash
with longhairs, and be one when I can offer hospitality. BootsnAll forever.

  11. Why did you decide to take this trip? What
got you into this type of travel, and/or influenced you to go?

    Wanderlust.

  12. What is your biggest fear about this
    trip?

Getting the stupid political paperwork lost, ie passport, ect.

  13. Are your family, friends, co-workers, etc.,
supportive of you? What is their opinion of your going around the
    world?

Family would rather have me living with them, friends would do it to if
they could get over the fear.

  14. How much planning and preparing have you
    done?

    Just Enough

  15. What are you packing? What do you consider
    your most indispensable item(s)?

Reading everyone else’s RTW profile, I’m not taking much in the way of clothes. Toothbrush, comb, razor.

  16. How do you think your round-the-world trip
will change your life? How do you think it will affect and change you as
    a person?

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness” – Mark Twain
I will be independant, and act in the face of uncertainty without hesitation.

  17. If you had to sum up your thoughts/feelings
about your round-the-world trip in one sentence, what would it
    be?

It’s what I am meant to do.

  18. Why do you think people should go on
round-the-world trips? Why not just take a regular old one- or two-week
    vacation instead?

People do what their guts tell ’em. I’m a vagabond by nature. I’ve traveled
since I was very young. When with friends overseas, I was the
navigator/linguist/keep your butt outta trouble guy.

  19. What is the biggest myth that people have
    about round-the-world traveling?

Gee, I don’t know, that no one does it anymore and it’s dangerous.

  20. Why do you like to travel?
Why do birds migrate by the season?

  21. What is your advice for people planning
    their own RTW trip?

While you’re planning, can I crash on your floor as I’m doing it?
