Ricky Bennison – Around-the-World Traveler

profileslegacy

Ricky Bennison is a 19-year-old from Aylesbury, England, who set off on a round-the-world trip in 2002.

My decision to take this trip was for the larger-than-life adventures possible whilst traveling. I’ve done one such thing before, which was a month-long expedition to Peru; I loved the challenge and experience-richness of it. This opened my horizons up to the world, which I fully hope to exploit.

What is your advice for other travelers?

Just make sure you do it.

What are you packing? What do you consider your most indispensable item(s)?

Packing general travel equipment: the usual sleeping bag, spare clothes, torch, etc. Most indispensable items are probably boots and sleeping bag.

What is the biggest myth people have about round-the-world travel?

The one I have: I doubt I’ll be coming back alive.

2026 Context

  • Budget inflation: This traveler did not disclose a budget; early-2000s round-the-world costs are substantially higher in 2026 (roughly 80% cumulative inflation).
