Traveler's Insights
Advice for other travelers: Just go for it…what are you waiting for?.?
Packing essentials: Hopefully just the bare essentials…my luxury items are my mini-disc player and digital camera…
Common misconception: That you just can’t uproot your life and leave, it’s terribly expensive, it’s too much work….and the list goes on. I think that all people (including myself) make excuses not to do something (not just travel) because they don’t want to admit they’re too lazy or scared to do what it is they want to do.
2026 Context
Budget inflation: The CAD 15,000 from 2004 now requires approximately USD 19700 in 2026, a 75% increase reflecting global economic changes and rising travel costs.
This pre trip profile captures round-the-world aspirations from the early 2000s. Modern travelers following similar routes should verify current visa requirements, safety conditions, and infrastructure in each destination.
Timeless principles: The planning foundations emphasized by this traveler remain essential. Thorough budgeting, visa research, family communication, and thoughtful preparation continue to support successful round-the-world journeys.
