Always Something Happening in Antigua

Folks often ask me “when is a good time to visit Antigua”? My response is this: ANYTIME. There is always some activity or festival going on here in Antigua and in Guatemala. January 1st – New Year’s Day with lots of fireworks and celebrations. February 14th – Valentine’s Day is celebrated. March Lent and Easter

My response is this: ANYTIME. There is always some activity or festival going on here in Antigua and in Guatemala.

January

1st – New Year’s Day with lots of fireworks and celebrations.

February

14th – Valentine’s Day is celebrated.

March

Lent and Easter (Semana Santa) are the big events this month. Many folks are busy preparing by painting their homes and preparing for the processions. There are processions every Sunday from Lent until Semana Santa.

April

The end of the Semana Santa activities.

25th – In Antigua, Hermano Pedro is honored with processions and festivities.

May

1st – Labor Day.

3rd – Day of the Holy Cross.

10th – Mother’s Day.


The rainy season begins mid-month.

June

17th – Father’s Day.

25th – Teacher’s Day.

30th – Army Day.

These are celebrated in Antigua and throughout Guatemala.

July

The entire month has festivities in Antigua as the Patron Saint of Antigua is Celebrated – Dia de Santiago – on the 25th.

August

Many activities around Guatemala.

September

15th – Independence Day closes the banks!

October

1st – Children’s Day.

12th – Columbus Day.

20th – Revolution Day.

The rainy season ends this month!

November

1st – All Saint’s Day.

2nd – All Souls Day.

Both have unique and special celebrations in Todos Santos, Santiago Sacatepequez and Sumpungo, as well as in all the cemeteries in Guatemala.

December

7th – Burning of the Devil.

12th – Virgin of Guadelupe.

15-24th – Nightly Posadas.

24th – Christmas Eve.

25th – Christmas Day.

29th – Peace Accords Day.

31st – New Years Eve (31).

Then we start celebrating all over again for the next year !!!!
