My life as a computer programmer and freelance writer teases me with visions of travel. I enjoy the mid-fifties, a wonderful wife and an equally wonderful daughter. I had not been overseas since my tour of duty in Vietnam in 1971 and my wife and daughter had never ventured outside the United States.
For eighteen years we have lived in a rural area south of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, in a log house that we built ourselves. We enjoy the outdoors and don’t mind hard work, although I do enjoy my fair share of leisure time. We don’t live extravagantly nor do we indulge in luxuries just for the sake of having them. We don’t take grand vacations very often and we felt we owed ourselves one indulgence of a trip to Scotland. I’m not sure why we picked Scotland, but it is a good choice for the first time international traveler.
