Indie Travel Tips
Follow these tips to have a truly indie travel experience while in Delhi.

  • Eat, eat, eat. Delhi is chock full of amazing food. While street stalls are always the best way to get super cheap, authentic food, even the restaurants offer extremely cheap fare that is delish.
  • If shopping is your thing and you want to get gifts and souvenirs for your return home, look no further than Delhi. Tons of shopping opportunities in bazaars located nearly everywhere. Make sure you bring your bargaining skills, though.
  • If moving on from here to explore more of the country, buy your train tickets online, but make sure you head to the train station just for the experience. It’s utter chaos and quite the scene.
  • Delhi is one of the oldest cities in the world at close to 5000 years old. There’s plenty of historical sites here to see.
  • If here during February and March, check out the Mughal Garden (only open for 30 days a year during these months) in the President’s House.

Why you should add Delhi to your RTW travel list

  • Delhi, your gateway to India
  • Be able to tell your friends that you’ve got what it takes to handle Delhi
  • Check out the Red Fort, the Pearl Mosque, and the Raj Ghat
  • Also jaunt off to Rajasthan, Varanasi, and Kashmir
  • Flying around the city in an auto-rickshaw can be quite the experience.
  • Shop in Connaught Place, the heart of New Delhi.

Why you should not add Delhi to your RTW travel list

  • It’s large, crowded, dirty, and can be completely overwhelming to even the most experienced travelers.
  • The touts really can be unbearable.
  • Bargaining for every single thing is fun for some people but a nightmare for others. Expect to bargain for nearly everything, and if you aren’t into bargaining, expect to get ripped off.

Are you heading to Delhi? What do you need to do?
